Opening The Loop & Ledger
Who is this for?
The Loop & Ledger is for anyone who is curious about the hows and whys of short session, highly replayable, systems driven games. The ones you play for ten minutes and accidentally lose an hour to.
I will be covering both progress on Nested Loop Games projects, alongside study and learning from other games in or around this space (think roguelikes, card games, strategy games etc)
It isn’t intended as a very technical blog just for developers, think closer to something like a hyper focussed Game Makers Toolkit, where anyone with an interest in these games can learn in more detail how they work and why they are so compelling.
What should you expect?
The current plan is to do a weekly newsletter every Friday, and rotate between study and dev logs. I think this is important as seeing how learnings are applied stops the newsletter from becoming too academic.
What is the new Nested Loop project?
The new project is called Ten Pin Ghouling, a cursed bowling roguelike inspired by ‘90s cartoons like Aaahh! Real Monsters, and going bowling with my friends as a kid. It’s weird. It’s got bonkers combo multipliers, deep strategy and haunted pins. You’ll probably love it.
